From Raising Awareness to Making Support Accessible: Osmar’s Journey

A Movement That Started With a Mission

A Movement That Started With a Mission

For Muhammad Osmar Zaidan Al-Wafi, addressing bullying has never been just about raising awareness. It is about making sure that students who experience it know they are not alone and that support is available.

As the founder of Bersatu Melawan Bully, Osmar has spent years building a youth-led movement focused on bullying prevention and education. Since 2021, the initiative has reached more than 100 schools, mobilized over 10,000 volunteers, and established partnerships with institutions to support its mission.

But as the movement grew, Osmar began to recognize another challenge: awareness does not always translate into action.

When Awareness Is Not Enough

When Awareness Is Not Enough

Through his experience, Osmar realized that students who experience bullying may still struggle to report what happened or access timely support.

School counselors often face heavy workloads, while professional psychological support may not always be immediately accessible. For students, speaking up can also feel intimidating, especially when they are worried about their privacy or how others might respond.

This raised an important question for Osmar: What happens when someone needs help but does not know where to turn?

For him, the next step is to explore how support systems can become more accessible, responsive, and easier for young people to approach.

““One day, no child will have to whisper their pain into the void. A whisper can start a movement. A fellowship can amplify it. I am ready.””

— Osmar

Exploring AI as a Tool for Early Support

Osmar is now exploring the idea of a Bersatu Melawan Bully AI Platform, a proposed initiative that could combine technology with existing support networks.

The concept envisions a platform where students can report bullying anonymously, receive initial guidance through an AI-assisted chatbot, and have their cases assessed to help determine appropriate next steps.

Rather than replacing counselors or mental health professionals, the proposed platform aims to connect students with human support when needed, particularly in cases that require further intervention.

It is still an idea in development. For Osmar, the challenge ahead is understanding how such a system can be designed responsibly, protect students' privacy, and work alongside the people and institutions already supporting them.

Why Singapore, Why GIF?

Through Global Impact Fellowship (GIF) 2026, Osmar is heading to Singapore to learn from a broader innovation ecosystem and connect with young leaders working on different challenges.

He hopes to explore how AI can be applied responsibly, learn about approaches to early intervention, and exchange ideas on how community-driven initiatives can collaborate with institutions to create lasting impact.

For Osmar, GIF is not simply an opportunity to present an idea. It is a chance to challenge his assumptions, learn from different perspectives, and bring new insights back to the movement he has been building.

From a Whisper to a Support System

From a Whisper to a Support System

Osmar's journey reflects an important lesson: creating awareness is only the beginning. Meaningful change also requires accessible support, trusted communities, and systems that help people take the next step.

As he continues exploring the possibilities of technology and social innovation, his mission remains rooted in the same belief that started the movement: no young person should have to face bullying alone.

Sometimes, a whisper can start a movement. The next challenge is making sure someone is there to listen.
